One weekend in 2006, after seeing an particularly
enjoyable belly dance dance showcase in the San Francisco Bay Area, we were inspired to try our
own hand at composing modal belly dance tunes.
Bert wrote a melody for alto recorder, and Dorothy wrote a melody for violin. We're not drummers but nevertheless added a simple belly dance rhythm on a small drum. It was a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon, and here are the results: Beledi Bertram - Bert's tune is in AABB form Beledi Thea - Dorothy's tune is in Rondo form: A-B-A-C-A-D-A. In performance, I would actually repeat each section. Autumn Veil - The alto recorder and violin alternate in this wistful melody.
