A Tenor on the Titanic

A tenor recorder on the Titanic? When the Titanic sailed in Vallejo on the evening of October 6, 2007, Bertram Barth proved he and his SAT recorders could swing with the best of them, taking the lead on early 1900’s hits such as Alexander’s Ragtime Band, Glow Worm, and The Easy Winners. The gala event, held at the USA World Classics Events Center in Vallejo, was an impressively staged benefit to finance a permanent home for the Vallejo Music Theatre, now in its 41st season. Together with Dorothy Barth on violin, Bert played before dinner as guests arrived to receive their boarding passes in the names of original passengers. The guests were greeted with music believed to have been played on the Titanic the day of its fateful voyage, including ragtime, Strauss waltzes, and late 19th Century salon favorites.
