Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 15, 2007

The Ojai Revels reunite on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. to present “We Gather Together,” an informal Thanksgiving concert on violins and recorders. The free program will be presented for residents at The Gables of Ojai and is open to the public.

The Revels last appeared in August of 2002, when they presented their Midsummer Night’s Dream concert at the Gables. They also performed holiday music at Rains Department store in December of 2000.

Violinist Dorée Huneven, a long-time Washington D.C. area resident, travels to Ojai several times per year to visit her father Arthur Huneven, a resident of The Gables. She and violinist/recorderist Dorothy Barth were fellow music majors during the early 1970’s at Pasadena City College and reconnected almost three decades later through the wonders of the internet.

Dorée Huneven was one of the early students of Shinichi Suzuki in Japan and finished her music studies in Southern California. She is president-elect of the Washington DC/MD Chapter of the American String Teachers Association and has an active violin studio in the DC area.

Dorothy Barth received her music degree from Stanford University. A writer and special events musician, she now lives in the San Francisco Bay area. Recorderist Bertram Barth is the third member of the Revels. He is a psychotherapist who often performs with Dorothy for events in Northern California.

As with prior bi-coastal Revels reunions, this year’s program is chosen from the trio’s music libraries, a binder is mailed across the country, and the program is further discussed by phone and by internet. The Revels will rehearse together upon arrival in Ojai the day before the concert.

In the spirit of gratitude, reflection, and celebration, the mostly American program will freely mix sacred and secular music.
