License or commission a poem
by
Dorothea Barth

While doing the sleuth work of all freelance writers, perusing job boards for publications in need of prose, I stumbled across a local startup "healthy living" magazine that uses in its title the name of the tree pictured below. I'd  recently written a poem for www.fairiesworld.com entitled The Gnome, the Goose, and the Eucalypt.  As a friendly creative gesture, I sent a link to the editor of the new magazine. The editor then suggested that I write a special poem in honor of the new publication and its upcoming launch party. Since the debut issue had already gone to print, I asked what might become of such verse? However, before waiting for the answer, I'd written, Whispers from the Eucalypt, incorporating imagery from the magazine's debut issue.

While there was no space for my poem in that startup issue (due to advertising commitments), in a flash of positive inspiration, I realized that no verse is wasted! Indeed, why not bring poetry to advertising? Corporations, instead of spending millions on ad campaigns, meetings, metrics, etc., why not have Dorothea Barth add poetry to your product?

Fees for Dorothea Barth's applied verse: Arrangements will be made for a fee affordable to your company, respectful of the writer's creativity, and that takes into consideration the distribution and use of her work (whether for print or other media).

Dorothea Barth is, coincidentally, the winner of Genentech's 2009 St. Patrick's Day Limerick Contest! She is featured in both the Faeryland 2011 and 2012 calendars, available at Barnes & Noble. Her sonnets have recently appeared in SAGE Magazine, published by the Yale School of Forestry.

Whispers from the Eucalypt
by Dorothea Barth 2009

The wise and weathered eucalypt
Inspires our heartfelt goal:
Messages of wellness
Erase, reverse life’s toll

“As I spread forth my branches
So you must stretch your limbs
Soaking deep the sunshine
While suffering not its whims

Fresh from farmer’s garden
Once sampled is sublime
Frequent cornucopia
Will slow the sands of time

Inhale the gentle breezes
Tread softly on our land
Nearby oases beckon
Renewal’s close at hand”

So speaks the fragrant eucalypt
Invites you take a break
Allow these colored pages
Life’s bounty to remake!
