Anniversary Villanelle
by Dorothea Barth ©2010

The morning ferry floats along the strait
Renewal beckons on the other shore
An anniversary to celebrate

A few long blocks and hills to navigate
Soon coffee, tarts and fine books to devour
While morning ferry floats back to the strait

More delicacies on Union Street await
The name rings wise, the wine brings more
An anniversary to celebrate

Inside St. Peter, Paul we meditate
Still stone, stained glass, the faithful and their lore
As mid-day ferry floats back from the strait

The feet surrender, spirits congregate
Hear Ghirardelli's feisty fiddler soar!
An anniversary to celebrate

The morning, afternoon too soon abate
Just one more daylight hour, we implore
As evening ferry floats back to the strait
An anniversary to celebrate
